01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

From the melting sweetness of otoro and fragrant seared fatty tuna to moist lean akami, Sushizanmai in Tsukiji lets diners appreciate the full spectrum of Pacific bluefin tuna. Nigiri can be ordered easily from just 1 piece, with choices tailored to your appetite and mood, including rare cuts like kamatoro (tuna collar) or sets featuring torotaku hand rolls. Beyond tuna, the menu spans a wide bounty of seafood, including silver-skinned fish such as horse mackerel and gizzard shad, scallops, ark clams, and plump simmered jo-anago (conger eel).

Grilled Dishes and Small Plates to Enjoy Before Sushi

Before turning to nigiri, the generous lineup of small dishes offers plenty to savor. Shirayaki conger eel, with its plump flesh and fragrant char, and rich Saikyo-miso-marinated black cod pair naturally with drinks. Weaving in warm fare—such as crisp deep-fried blowfish (fugu karaage), assorted tempura, or a classic chawanmushi savory egg custard—adds depth to the meal. You can match each course with drinks, including the original junmai ginjo Daiki Gin, Hakkaisan, draft beer, or green tea highballs.

A Relaxed Stop in Tsukiji

The restaurant features counter seating where guests can watch the sushi chefs at work, alongside tables for a more leisurely meal, accommodating everything from a quick solo lunch to lively group gatherings. Open continuously from 8:00 in the morning until 19:00 at night, it serves as a convenient stop for a late lunch while exploring Tsukiji or an early dinner. To round off the meal, a warm bowl of miso soup infused with the savoriness of green seaweed (aonori) or asari clams brings everything to a satisfying close.
